Lead Dust Cleanup and Clearance Testing in Cedar Park, TX

Cedar Park Lead Paint Removal provides lead dust cleanup and clearance testing for Cedar Park homes where older paint has already been disturbed: walls sanded before a repaint, trim scraped, or a remodel finished without lead-safe precautions. Cleanup means HEPA vacuuming and wet wiping every surface the dust could reach, working from the top of the room down. Clearance testing is the separate step that shows whether it worked.

Keeping the two apart matters, because whoever does the cleaning should not be the only judge of the result. We take on dust problems in Cedar Park and the neighboring cities of Leander and Lakeway.

Cleanup and verification options

Cleanup after a renovation

When a remodel in a pre-1978 house followed EPA’s RRP rule, cleanup is part of the job. The certified renovator cleans the work area, then performs cleaning verification, wiping windowsills, floors and countertops and comparing each cloth with EPA’s cleaning verification card. A cloth that matches the card or is lighter passes; a darker one means another round of cleaning. If you are not sure that step happened, ask the contractor what was done.

Cleanup after DIY sanding or scraping

If you sanded or scraped paint in a house built before 1978 and now suspect it held lead, stop the work and keep children and pets out of the room. Shut the door and leave the debris where it is rather than sweeping it, so the dust travels no further. A professional cleanup then covers the room and any path the dust took, and a paint test settles whether lead was there in the first place.

Dust-wipe clearance testing

Clearance is an independent check. A certified inspector, risk assessor or, after a renovation, a certified dust sampling technician first looks for visible dust and debris, then takes wipe samples from floors, sills and window troughs for laboratory analysis. After abatement, federal rules require that sampling to wait at least one hour after final cleanup. After a remodel it is optional, but an owner can write clearance sampling into the contract; the firm then re-cleans until results come in below the dust-lead action levels.

Soil and exterior debris

Paint chips from exterior scraping land in the beds along the drip line, where children may play and from where they can be tracked indoors. For exterior renovation, EPA requires ground cover and a visual check of the ground and sills before it comes up; chips that escaped, or that fell during years of peeling, are picked up and bagged. A risk assessment can add bare-soil samples. Soil remediation beyond collecting debris is outside what we offer.

Cleaning verification and clearance are different

Cleaning verification is a visual check plus a cloth comparison by the renovator who did the work; no laboratory is involved. Clearance is lab analysis of dust samples taken by a certified inspector or risk assessor. In a rule published in November 2024, EPA renamed its clearance levels dust-lead action levels and replaced its dust hazard standards with reportable levels, with compliance from January 12, 2026 where EPA runs the program. Texas runs its own abatement program, and whether it has adopted the new values was unresolved in our research, so this page quotes no numbers. Ask the inspector which values the report applies.

If the dust came from a project still under way, lead-safe remodeling explains how the rest of the work should be set up. To learn whether the disturbed paint actually contains lead, begin with lead paint inspection and risk assessment. More about Cedar Park Lead Paint Removal is on the home page.
